Phase One Critical Review: Mobile Arts for Peace (Rwanda)

As part of Changing the Story's Phase One Activities is Rwanda this critical review and project reflection maps out the work of the project taking place in both public and private spaces in relation to the use of art in fostering peacebuilding in post-genocide Rwanda. The aim of the critical review is to record convergences, synergies and challenges within the Mobile Arts for Peace project (MAP). The critical review is comprised of a youth report, teachers report and an artist report and outlines the methodologies used, as well as the influence and impact of the project on each group.

Position Paper: Evaluating the Arts

(Dec 2020) There is growing recognition that existing monitoring and evaluation models do not fully capture the complexity of work in international development. Such models can be especially limiting when it comes to evaluating arts-based methods and programmes. The Evaluating the Arts Workshop was co-hosted by the British Council and the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) through its PRAXIS project. It brought together researchers from across the AHRC project portfolio, as well as representatives from the AHRC, the British Council, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and UNESCO. The outputs from these discussions have formed the basis of this paper.

Mobility Fund Report, 2020

In 2019, Changing the Story (CTS) launched a Mobility Fund, offering financial support of up to £1000 designed to enhance the mobility and professional development of CTS grantees based in the 13 project countries (researchers, practitioners and youth partners). The fund has proven hugely popular, providing excellent networking, knowledge exchange and additional research dissemination opportunities, beyond what grantees originally envisaged at the project application stage. This reports captures some of the opportunities and experiences made possible by the fund, which remains open until June 2021.

Heritage for Global Challenges Report 2021

‘Heritage for Global Challenges’, is a report written by PRAXIS Post-doctoral Researcher Dr Francesca Giliberto, to address the fact that heritage remains largely absent from the most recent international development agenda (2030 Agenda), adopted by the United Nations. The report examined 87 projects from 49 countries funded by the UK’s Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) and the Newton Fund and demonstrates the relevance of heritage research to tackle global challenges and to foster sustainable development.

In March 2019, Changing the Story hosted a workshop in Phnom Penh, Cambodia titled ‘Learning from the past with and for young people: Intergenerational dialogue, education and memory after genocide.’
