A Portrait of Marielle Franco (2018)

Portrait of Marielle (2018) is a short animation made by a group of Kenyan artists over a week during a series of workshops led by Paula Callus, and Ng’endo Mukii and hosted by PAWA 254, Nairobi. The experimental animation is a tribute to the Brazilian human-right activist and politician Marielle Franco, murdered on 14 March 2018 in Rio de Janeiro . This animation was made as part of the AHRC Network e-Voices: Redressing Marginality project which brings together a global network of academics and practitioners to explore the theme of marginalisation. It focuses on how digital media can be used by marginalised groups to make their voices heard within and beyond the borders of their communities and promote social inclusion.
